WELCOME to my corner of the Interwebs! For those of you that are new here, my name is Rachel Whetzel.

I’m taking part in Creative Paperclay’s® Halloween Link Up Party, and also tossing my hat in the ring to keep my spot on the Design Team!! I love making pieces for my Witch’s Apothecary, and this year was no different!! I have THREE things to share with you today!
First, I have my Jar O Slugs that I created and shared yesterday on the Creative Paperclay® blog.

Next, I used the Bat Wing mold I created last year, to create a whole JAR full of wings!

Lastly, I made DRAGON’S EYEBALLS!!

I’m really happy with how these came out, and they look so cute in their old Avon bowl I spray painted black! They were SO simple to make.
If you’d like to make some eyeballs for yourself,

YOU WILL NEED:

  • Creative Paperclay® modeling material
  • White Gesso
  • Acrylic Paints (I use Folk Art)
  • Antiquing Stain
  • Matte Finish Krylon Sealant spray (and black if you want to refinish your container)
  • A cool thrifted container to hold them

Are you ready?
Pull off some blobs of Creative Paperclay® in similar amounts. (because you want your eyeballs to be pretty much all the same size.) Remember, these are DRAGON’S eyeballs, so they should fill the palm of your hand pretty well. I made 6 blobs, to have three PAIRS of eyeballs. Now roll those blobs into balls. Set them on a plate to dry. If you have any cracks once the balls are dry, get them wet, and press in VERY tiny amounts of clay into the cracks. Once your crack repair is dry, use sand paper to further smooth out your balls and make them nice and round. Then start painting!

I started out by putting on a layer of white gesso. Then I painted a circle of color in the middles. Next, I painted the black slits for the Dragon’s pupils. Then I put in shading and darker versions of the original colors on the eyeballs. Dark on the outside, to light on the inside, with yellow at the very edge of the pupil, and fading out into the color of the eyeballs. I used metalic paints when I could. For the final effect, I painted antiquing stain around the outside of the color, and faded it into the eyeballs.
Here they are again, all together!!

Very awesome collection! I’d keep something like that in my house all year – but I’m a little off beat.

What did you use to get the high gloss finish on the eyeballs?

Susan, I actually haven’t finished the eyeballs yet! lol They just look nice and shiny in the pics. I think if I were TRYING for a high gloss, I’d use Krylon gloss finish artist sealant.
