I’ve joined with some fellow bloggers for Dia de los Muertos with Stephanie and also with Susan, in honor of Dia de Los Muertos. (Day of the Dead) This is my first Day of the Dead celebration, and I have started the tradition this year, in honor of my grandma, and I haven’t followed ALL of the traditions to a T.
First, my mom was over this weekend, and we made tortillas using my great grandma’s recipe… which, is missing a few details…
It was pretty fun, though! Ian got in on the rolling too…
It was really nice to think about my heritage, however CONFUSING it is…
They tasted just as good as they look… and I saved one for my ofrenda too.
My Day of the Dead ofrenda is in honor of my gramma Rose.
I can’t print my photo of her that I wanted to put in her ofrenda, so I’m putting it here on my blog.
She loved life, and lived well.
Here is my ofrenda. I painted one of my thrifted finds, a vintage dolls. They remind me of my grandma, so I painted one, reminicent of traditional Catrinas. I found the little “gobblet” glass at the thrift store too, and it really reminded me of gramma, so I’m using it for the water element holding her drink. I’ll be serving Menudo for our Day of the Dead celebration too.
These little candle holders remind me of gramma too.
I bought sugar molds for Mexican Sugar Skulls, but I got the order into the company late, so I created faux sugar skulls. This one is my favorite.
Here’s all of them so far!! Mom made a few too!!
If you have time today, pop over to the other gals who are taking part in this celebration!!
