Some of us don’t have a daily skincare routine and a lot of us don’t have the right skincare routine. Here are some dermatologist-recommended skincare routine tips to achieve the skin you’ve always dreamed of – it is possible!
Choose the Right Cleanser
Every skin type needs a different type of cleanser. What works for someone with oily skin won’t help someone with dry skin. If you’re prone to acne or struggle to keep your oil levels down, use a benzoyl wah or salicylic gel. Dry skin responds much better to a milky cleanser or moisturizing glycolic. If you’re looking to treat melasma or brown spots, a brightening alpha hydroxy acid cleanser is your best bet.
Hydrate Inside and Out
You should be using a hydrating moisturizer day and night – especially when fresh from a shower. All of your other products, including anti-aging serums and cleansing solutions, should have hydrating formulas included as well. The easiest way to prevent sagging and keep your skin hydrated is to drink at least 8 glasses of water every day.
Exfoliating is more important than you might realize. We should be exfoliating twice a week since we lose more than 50 million skin cells every day, and they can hang around and affect our skin’s appearance. It’s also recommended to choose a pH-neutral exfoliant to prevent excessive drying of the skin. And, it’s not only your face that needs care; make sure to exfoliate your entire body regularly.
Most of us only wear sunscreen when we’re planning a day at the beach or going for a hike, but you should be protecting your skin from the sun 365 days a year, regardless of your sun index. UV rays can still pass through heavy cloud cover, so you should wear an SPF30+ sunscreen every time you head outdoors to prevent premature aging of your skin.
If you feel you’re past daily routines improving your skin, it may be time for more aggressive treatments.
